June 21 was chosen to be the National Aboriginal Day in 1996 because today is the summer solstice.  Aboriginal people have been celebrating their culture and heritage on the longest day of the year for generations.

There are various events across Canada to celebrate the National Aboriginal Day until June 26.  To find out the schedule, please go to

There are also resources available for teachers and everyone else.
